Online RE RegistrationYouth RE 2008-2009Amazing Grace: Exploring Right and Wrong - 11 year olds (6th grade) Amazing Grace uses drama, art, music, discussion and other tools to encourage sixth graders to recognize the many sources available to them to help make decisions between right and wrong. By looking at what religion, the law, our culture, their peers, and their conscious say about right/wrong, virtue/sin, youth explore how Unitarian Universalists take responsibility for the decisions they make in their lives and the consequences. Neighboring Faiths - 12 year olds (7th Grade) Neighboring Faiths is an updated version of "The Church Across The Street", first published in 1947. It is clear that the religious landscape of the U.S. has changed dramatically since that time, and the scope of this curriculum reflects and affirms the racial, cultural, and religious pluralism of society and the world. Never has it been more important to move beyond the recognition of religious diversity to an active engagement with that diversity, and to move beyond tolerance to an active search for understanding. The goals for class include: to participate personally in the faith traditions of others, to reflect on the unique and the universal of religious experience, to explore their own values as they relate to many other faith traditions, and to become more aware of the many connections between Unitarian Universalism and other faith traditions. The class will involve visits to other congregations throughout the year. Coming of Age - 13 year olds (8th Grade) offered only during the 11:15 service This program, designed by the UUCA Coming of Age team, helps youth explore what it means to move fully out of childhood and into the journey-time called adolescence. This can be a positive growth time for youth to ask important questions about life, meaning, spirituality, and relationships. It is meant to help youth think about issues, and to form their own opinions and values. Some of the elements of the program include: a focus on faith development culminating in a personal belief statement, a mentor program, social justice involvement, developing a connection to the congregation and the denomination, and several retreats and special celebrations. High School - 14-18 year olds (9th-12th Grades) This group chooses their own programs, integrating the six components of a healthy youth program: learning, worship, social action, community building, leadership, and youth-adult partnership. Our Whole Lives (OWL)" sexuality education is offered annually. Click on OWL for description. Additional Information with Youth and FamiliesIn addition to our Religious Education classes, we offer a youth group for both Junior High and High School, which we refer to as YRUU (Young Religious Unitarian Universalists).
